With his two faces, animal and human, was the centaur Cheiron who raised Jason, Achilles and Aeneas. Famous as a prophet, doctor and scholar he was the son of Philyra by Cronus, also the father of Zeus, who, surprised in the act, turned himself into a stallion and galloped off, leaving Philyra; she, disgusted at her half-human, half-horse child, turned herself into a linden tree.
Belonging to the mutable group and the fire element Sagittarians always have their own way of doing things and believe it to be the only way! Travel and high adventure are musts for Sagittarians coupled with a yearning to philosophise about life and the universe. Ruled by the giant planet Jupiter. Like the archer, you aim for the stars but are tied to the earth. You have high principles but are often so bluntly honest, that you can end up making a mess, or leaving someone feeling bruised. You don't carry a grudge, so you soon forget. You hate being fenced in on any subject, a generous, lucky philosopher, so long as the philosophy is the one you invented. You are often a little surprised to find that other people don't seem to live by the same rules as you do. But you see the broader view and tend to miss the details. You can inspire others but may be very reluctant to make commitments or take full responsibilities. As a future-oriented Sagittarius, the ninth sign of the zodiac, you are considered the most prophetic of the signs because you have the urge to understand the meaning of life.
Also the most mobile sign of
the zodiac, you explore beyond physical and mental boundaries, and thrive on
freedom and liberty. Jupiter, the planet of luck and expansion, is the ruler of
Sagittarius, and brings optimism and joy to life. Jupiter is also associated
with a person's spiritual beliefs and philosophic standards. Sagittarius is the
third fire sign. This fiery influence is like a candle in the dark, lighting the
way to knowledge and wisdom. You walk through life high-spirited and
openhearted, always seeking the truth. You are farsighted and
goal-directed and are gifted in grasping general principles.

Sagittarius Ascendant endows
you with the type of flexible personality that works well for you. Because of
your need for independence and freedom, you tend to find yourself in changing
circumstances and different environments. Such changes of course require a
certain amount of adaptability. With a Sagittarian ascendant, you are inclined
to put marriage off until later in life (or skip it altogether) unless you find
an understanding partner who does not attempt to be possessive or confine you.
Once such an acceptable marriage arrangement is made however, the Archer adapts
and makes a stable, loyal spouse.
Your child is an intellect. He
or she is often possessive but generous with those that are close. A child born
under this sun sign is hopeful and impressionable. He or she is quick,
enterprising, demonstrative in affection, and loyal. This individual loves
liberty and will do anything to obtain it. Because of a firm belief in freedom
of speech and expression, Sagittarius children are strong in opinion.
Sagittarians also have a psychological outlook on life, always trying to
understand what makes people tick.
If there's someone who likes
being the center of attention, it's a Sagitarius. And why not? Those born under this
Sign are giving, proud, energetic, confident -- the world can't help but look!
That is as it should be, says the Lion. They're firebrands with plenty of
smolder in their eyes and a golden glow all around. Sagitariuss are focused in their
work and make excellent team leaders. The Lion is also a risk-taker, someone who
wants the world (for starters) and often gets it.
Sagittarius as Employer
Sagittarius as Employee
A typical Sagittarius employee (male or female):
The workplace of a typical Sagittarius man or woman:
Sagittarius, a masculine sign,
is adventurous and not averse to the thrill of risk-taking. Your positive,
life-affirming optimism makes you a lot of fun and great to be around. You love
any new form of sexual expression that challenges and excites you. Both tolerant
and eager to please, your honesty can sometimes prove too much for those who
prefer a more mysterious, or veiled approach to love. Your ancient emblem is the
Centaur, a mythical creature famed for its wisdom and its unique half-man,
half-horse combination of the human intellect and animal passions.
Sagittarius and Sex
A typical Sagittarius regards
sex as another adventure to be enjoyed and explored. Sagittarians tend to take a
chance on love, and they enter a relationship with the same recklessness that
they display in their activities. In the relationship, he or she will be warm
and loving and a wonderful companion. Sagittarians normally enjoy a lot of
touching and cuddling -- a good, warm, loving hug is their form of a security
blanket. Common intellectual interests are equally essential to the success of
any long-term sexual relationship.
The person who contemplates
becoming the marriage or business partner of a typical Sagittarius must realize
that Sagittarius will value his or her freedom above everything. Given this, the
person who partners Sagittarius can expect honesty and plenty of creative ideas.
Sagittarius Man As A Partner
He will want a partner who
enjoys spontaneity and who will appreciate his grand gestures and courageous
outbursts or enthusiasm. He will also want a partner who will not try to control
him. In business, a person who has a sound understanding of financial matters
would make the perfect partner.
Frank and friendly, she wants
a partner who can love her for her outspoken charm, not wilt under it. Her words
and actions will always show what she is thinking and feeling, so a potential
partner should be quite clear about their feelings. Sagittarian women are
neither coy nor evasive, and will want a partner who does not play silly games.
In marriage or in business, a partner must always ask her to do something, never
tell her. However, she will respond to hints.
Gemini is the complementary
opposite sign to Sagittarius. Although the relationship between the two may have
some difficulties, Sagittarius can learn from Gemini how to notice and take
account of details. In this way, Sagittarius can become inspiring guides,
lighting the way for others, rather than leading them by preaching what the
route should be.
In general, Sagittarius likes a friend who is open-minded, ready for an
adventure, and trusting. Sagittarians are friendly, gregarious people who
accepts any friend who matches up to their personal standards. They will defend
a friend with great loyalty, but they will also say exactly what they think.
Sagittarians have friends from many walks of life. Among those are likely to be
both men and women, straight and gay people, a range of ages, and a mixture of
ethnic groups; they will all be treated as equals.
Sagittarius are most compatible with Aries and Leo signs.
Nostradamus was a French physician
and astrologer who dabbled in prophecy. His volume Centuries, a big set of vague
and often cataclysmic predictions set in quatrains, made quite a sensation in
his day. (Charles IX even made him court physician.) A few people continue to
believe that Nostradamus really could predict events of the future, from the
rise of Adolf Hitler to the assassination of John F. Kennedy and the attacks on
the Pentagon and the World Trade Center in September of 2001. In truth, there is
no real proof that Nostradamus could accurately predict the future, and many of
the circulating "predictions" attributed to Nostradamus were not even written by
him at all.
Steven Spielberg directed many of
the top-grossing films in Hollywood history, including the blockbusters Jaws
(1975), E.T. (1982), and many more. His first TV movie, Duel (1971), was
successful enough to earn a theatrical release. The shark thriller Jaws (1975)
made Spielberg a hot property, and over the next 20 years he grew into the most
successful movie mogul alive. His directing credits include hits like Close
Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981, co-produced
by George Lucas), the cuddly-alien flick E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, the
dinosaurs-on-the-loose classic Jurassic Park (1993), and War of the Worlds
(2005). Raiders of the Lost Ark and Jurassic Park each spawned two sequels and
are among the most lucrative film series of all time. Spielberg's huge box
office successes have allowed him to make more serious films as well, including
The Color Purple (1985), Schindler's List (1993) and Saving Private Ryan (1998)
and Munich (2005). In 1994, with fellow Hollywood moguls Jeffrey Katzenberg and
David Geffen, he founded the studio Dreamworks SKG; the company was sold to
Viacom in 2006. Spielberg went many years without winning an Academy Award, but
he broke through with best director and best picture Oscars for Schindler's
List, given in 1994. He also won a best director Oscar for Saving Private Ryan
and was given the Academy's Irving G. Thalberg Award in 1987 for his
contributions to the industry.
Mark Twain is on nearly everyone's
list of all-time great American authors. Twain was raised in Hannibal, Missouri
and as a young man held a series of jobs which included work as a printer's
apprentice, a Mississippi riverboat pilot, and a newspaperman in Nevada and San
Francisco. He moved gradually from journalism to travel writing and then to
fiction, aided by the success of his 1869 travel memoir The Innocents Abroad.
His humorous tales of human nature, especially The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
(1876) and Huckleberry Finn (1885), remain standard texts in high school and
college literature classes. In his own day Twain was a tremendously popular
figure and a celebrated public speaker who toured widely. Other Twain classics
include Life on the Mississippi (1883) and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's
Court (1889) and the short story The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County
